The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure has today launched the third course of its LadeLernTOOL e-learning platform. The platform is particularly aimed in at employees working in municipalities, to support them in setting up charging infrastructure for electric vehicles at the local level. The new course takes a closer look at the role of municipalities. It provides an overview of the municipal instruments for action and the underlying legal framework. As such, course 3 follows on from the two already existing courses with basic knowledge on electric mobility and charging infrastructure. Around 1,000 users have registered for the LadeLernTOOL to date.

The “Charging Infrastructure Master Plan II”, which was adopted by the German federal cabinet in October 2022, and which constitutes the federal government’s roadmap for the expansion of charging infrastructure in Germany, places a clear focus on empowering municipalities as key players and involving them more closely, and provides various support services for this purpose. The publication of the LadeLernTOOL e-learning platform was one of the first implemented measures of the master plan.

The new course comprises three modules that take a more in-depth look at different aspects of the role of municipalities. Module 1 addresses the interaction between municipalities and the federal government, the “Charging Infrastructure Master Plan II”, facts and figures on charging infrastructure in the federal states, districts and municipalities, as well as demand planning at federal to local level. Module 2 deals with the various instruments for action with which municipalities can actively accelerate the development of charging infrastructure, such as the activation of municipal land. Module 3 takes a look at the legal foundations that municipalities must observe when expanding charging infrastructure, including building law and the legal provisions governing roads and rights of access.

Kurt-Christoph von Knobelsdorff, CEO and Spokesperson of NOW GmbH: “For a successful transition to electric mobility, we need to have the cities and municipalities on board. The approximately 11,000 municipalities in Germany can make a decisive contribution on the way to climate-friendly road transport. Course 3 of the LadeLernTOOL e-learning platform also makes this perfectly clear. In it, we offer employees in the municipalities content tailored to their needs. In this way, they can expand their knowledge about the charging infrastructure in Germany and their options for taking action in a simple and appealing manner. At the same time, the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure is continuing to work on developing further new courses.”

The LadeLernTOOL is an e-learning platform developed by the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure. The modular courses enable participants to flexibly expand their knowledge on the topic of charging infrastructure development at their own pace. A variety of exercises consolidate the content participants have learned. Each course ends with a test and the award of a personalised certificate. Registration and use of the LadeLernTOOL is free of charge for all users. The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure continuously develops the scope of courses and the functions of the LadeLernTOOL. The Centre plans and supports the activities for the expansion of the charging infrastructure in Germany on behalf of the BMDV and under the umbrella of the federally owned NOW GmbH.
