Berliner Stadtwerke has installed four new charging stations equipped with eight charging points in the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf in Berlin. The Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (Bundesministerium für Digitales und Verkehr) supported the publicly accessible charging park with €45,000 in funding. Together with Manja Schreiner, Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment of the State of Berlin, and Johannes Pallasch, Spokesperson of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure and Division Manager of NOW GmbH, the company today put them into operation.

The eight charging points at the newly revamped Olivaer Platz are part of approximately 240 new charging points at 120 charging stations in public spaces that Berliner Stadtwerke plans to build this year. Seven 22 kW AC normal chargers and one 50 kW DC fast charger are now available to users there.

Johannes Pallasch, Spokesperson for the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure and Division Manager of NOW GmbH: “The opening of these eight new charging points in the heart of Berlin is an important step towards sustainable mobility. In highly dense urban areas such as Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf, public charging of electric vehicles is of central importance for many residents without their own parking space or private charging facilities. With the installation of the new charging points, we are making electric mobility accessible to all citizens.”

Manja Schreiner, Senator for Mobility, Transport, Climate Protection and the Environment: “I am delighted that the expansion of the public charging infrastructure is making noticeable progress. We are already exceeding the new European requirements for publicly accessible charging infrastructure and now have more than 3,000 publicly accessible charging points in Berlin. With the Berliner Stadtwerke as an important partner and the ten other companies that are making very extensive investments in the charging infrastructure in public spaces themselves, we are now making noticeably faster progress. This means that there are already more than 20,000 charging points on private land and in public spaces for the approximately 60,000 electric vehicles in the city.”

The charging points at Olivaer Platz were funded by the BMDV from the “Publicly accessible charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (2021–2025)” programme. Berliner Stadtwerke operates the charging points exclusively with green electricity.
