Baden-Württemberg enters 130 properties into the FlächenTOOL system for the expansion of charging infrastructure

To accelerate the expansion of charging infrastructure, the state of Baden-Württemberg is now using FlächenTOOL, produced by the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, to list 130 federally- and state-owned parking areas along federal and state roads.

The FlächenTOOL, produced by the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, is a digital matching platform where properties that are available for the construction of charging infrastructure can be posted and found by investors. The platform aims to bring property owners such as states, municipalities, companies and private individuals together with those who wish to invest in charging infrastructure.

130 federally- and state-owned parking areas along federal and state roads in Baden-Württemberg are now visible on the FlächenTOOL. Private investors can submit informal applications for the parking areas posted online. After making contact via FlächenTOOL, regional councils in Stuttgart, Tübingen, Karlsruhe and Freiburg review the applications received with the aid of administrative authorities and then make contact with the private investors. If an agreement is reached, a special utilization permit can be issued for the installation of publicly accessible charging infrastructure.

Winfried Hermann, Transport Minister of Baden-Württemberg, said: “The provision of suitable properties is crucial for the continued expansion of charging infrastructure. As a federal state, we wish to make a contribution to this initiative.”

Entering plots of land on the platform takes just a few minutes. The basic data required is location, area size, number of parking spaces and public accessibility. Further details such as connection to the power grid, availability of toilet facilities and photos of the property can also be added. Investors can search in a targeted manner on the interactive map for land and if interested, contact property-owners directly. Search results can be customised by means of various filters, for example to highlight sites posted by the state of Baden-Württemberg.
