The Free State of Saxony is providing its own parking spaces for the creation of publicly usable charging facilities by outside investors through the FlächenTOOL of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure. It is thereby making another important contribution to the expansion of publicly accessible charging infrastructure. The State Enterprise for Saxon Real Estate and Construction Management (SIB) rolled out charging infrastructure in recent years with currently around 710 charging stations for the state-wide use of electric company cars. The entry of state-owned properties in the FlächenTOOL is another step towards promoting e-mobility in Saxony.
The FlächenTOOL supports the construction of publicly accessible charging infrastructure in that it displays available plots. States, municipalities, companies as well as private individuals can search and offer suitable properties through the digital platform. Over 50 state-owned areas for parking in the Free State of Saxony at public administrative and university locations can now be located at www.flaechentool.de. Private investors can apply to set up publicly accessible charging infrastructure as part of a land lease.
Oliver Gaber, Commercial Director at the SIB: “E-mobility has a high priority in the Free State of Saxony. We are making properties available and creating the appropriate charging facilities. Having already successfully expanded the network of charging points for electric company cars in recent years, we are now supporting the expansion of publicly accessible charging infrastructure with providing suitable parking spaces.”
Johannes Pallasch, Head and Spokesperson of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure in NOW GmbH: “We are delighted that the Free State of Saxony is providing more than 50 spaces for the construction of publicly accessible charging infrastructure in the FlächenTOOL. Using the tool makes the matching process between private investors and municipal authorities easier, thus accelerating local expansion. Each newly submitted space advances the development of charging infrastructure in Germany. We are convinced that the advantages of the FlächenTOOL are also attractive for other federal states.”
With the necessary basic data, such as location, size of area, number of parking spaces and public accessibility, the available plots can be submitted in a matter of minutes to the platform. Further details can be added, such as connection to the power grid, availability of infrastructure and photos of the area. Investors can search for specific properties on the interactive map of the FlächenTOOL and contact the owner directly. The search filter function makes it possible to list Free State of Saxony sites.
These and other activities on expanding charging infrastructure are supported by the Centre for Competence for Efficient Mobility in Saxony. It is financed by the Saxony State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Protection at the Saxony’s Energy Agency – SAENA GmbH. The next joint initiative with the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure takes place on 26.08.25 in Dresden. It is an information event for Saxon municipalities and other land owners for the approval and allocation of space for charging infrastructure. Please register at www.saena.de
