Promotion of charging infrastructure in Germany
The Federal Ministry of Transport is supporting the expansion of the charging infrastructure with targeted funding programs.
The aim is to create a comprehensive, needs-based charging network for electric vehicles - at home, at work and in public spaces.

Current funding programs
Funding program for charging infrastructure in and around apartment buildings
With this funding program, the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) is supporting the development of charging infrastructure in and around apartment buildings.
Funding is available for the purchase and installation of private charging infrastructure, e.g. wallboxes in conjunction with the corresponding technical equipment. The grid connection or necessary construction measures are also eligible for funding.
- Duration of funding guideline: 30.06.2027
- Funding volume: 500 million euros
Eligible applicants are:
- Condominium owners' associations (WEG) and their owners
- Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and private owners of residential property for renting out
- Housing associations and real estate companies with a large housing stock
Application periods:
- For the first two recipient groups, applications can be submitted until November 10, 2026.
- For companies with a large residential portfolio, applications can be submitted until October 15, 2026.
Funding conditions:
- Existing apartment building in Germany
- Charging infrastructure for residents only (not publicly accessible)
- Pre-wiring of at least 20 % of the residential parking spaces (but at least 6 parking spaces) after completion of the measure
- Cost estimate is available at the time of application
- Start of construction only after approval of the funding application
- Use of 100 % electricity from renewable energies

Funding Program for Truck Charging Infrastructure
The Federal Ministry of Transportation (BMV) is providing funding to support the development of charging infrastructure for battery-electric heavy-duty commercial vehicles. The funding guidelines are intended for both companies that install charging infrastructure at their own depots and operators of publicly accessible charging stations.
Funding is provided through several calls for proposals targeting different groups. Additional calls for proposals will follow.
- Duration of funding guideline: 4 years
- Funding volume: 1 billion euros

CEF2 Reflow Call 2026 - Funding for Charging Infrastructure for Heavy-Duty Vehicles in the TEN-T Network
The European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure, and the Environment (CINEA) has issued the latest call for proposals as part of the Connecting Europe Facility 2 (CEF2) published. In the transportation sector, projects include, among others, those related to Charging Infrastructure for Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles supported.
- Application deadline: October 6, 2026, 5:00 p.m.
- Funding amount: 130 million euros for AFIF-related topics
- Max. EU contribution:
- €20 million for projects in an EU member state
- €40 million for projects in several EU member states
Eligible applicants are:
- public and private legal entities from EU member states and from partner countries participating in the CEF program
The following are eligible for funding in particular:
- Publicly accessible truck loading areas with at least four MCS charging points, each with a capacity of at least 1 MW
- Combinations of MCS charging points (at least 1 MW) and CCS charging points (at least 350 kW)
- Construction costs within the charging pool area, such as chargers, electrical infrastructure, substations, batteries, energy management systems, traffic areas, and canopies
Important Requirements:
- Location at TEN-T Road Network or within a 3-km driving distance
- Open to the public 24/7
- AFIR- and TEN-T-compliant
- Dynamic energy management system required
- For use exclusively in heavy-duty commercial vehicles
- Operation and maintenance of the funded infrastructure for at least five years
The following, among others, are not eligible for funding:
- Vehicles
- Land acquisition or leasing costs
- The applicant's personnel costs
- Planning, Research, and Project Management Costs
- Operating Costs (OPEX)
- Modernization of Existing Charging Infrastructure
