Monitoring the charging infrastructure in Germany
The National Charging Infrastructure Control Center under the umbrella of NOW GmbH is the central authority for monitoring the charging infrastructure in Germany. It continuously analyzes the expansion, use and development of publicly accessible charging points and makes the results available in a transparent manner.
Interactive dashboards make it possible for politicians, business, administration and the public to find out about the current status and progress of the development of the charging infrastructure at any time.
Monitoring as a core task of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure
A particular focus is on the charging points subsidized by the federal government and the locations being established in the German network. For these, the control center has extensive data on construction, operation, capacity utilization and costs.
Data is collected via the online reporting platform OBELIS, which enables mandatory reporting for subsidized charging infrastructure. This data is used to analyze trends and derive future requirements.
In addition, the control center records the progress of the charging infrastructure programs of various federal ministries on behalf of the federal government.

Car charging infrastructureMONITORING
The Car Charging Infrastructure MONITORING shows the stock and development of publicly accessible charging infrastructure for cars in Germany. The dashboard offers up-to-date evaluations of charging points, charging capacity, regional distribution and monthly expansion based on quality-assured data from the Federal Network Agency.
ExpansionMONITORING
ExpansionMONITORING analyzes the regional demand coverage of publicly accessible charging infrastructure in Germany and enables a detailed comparison of all districts and independent cities. The dashboard also provides information on the utilization of charging points, the provider structure and local competition. The dashboard and the accompanying PDF report are continuously updated.
Truck charging infrastructureMONITORING
The truck charging infrastructure MONITORING provides a detailed overview of the existing and the expansion of the publicly accessible charging infrastructure for heavy commercial vehicles in Germany. The dashboard enables regional evaluations, differentiated filtering according to location requirements and an outlook on the expansion of the truck fast charging network.
Conveyor MONITORING
FörderMONITORING bundles data on the funding activities of the federal government, in particular the Federal Ministry of Transport, in the area of charging infrastructure. The dashboard shows funded charging points, funding used and regional distributions and enables targeted evaluations according to funding programs, federal ministries and charging point types. In addition, integrated program profiles provide in-depth information on the individual funding measures.

Reporting obligation for subsidized charging points
The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure collects and analyzes data from charging points that are funded as part of the BMV's funding programs. The data is collected on the basis of the reporting obligation to which the receipt of funding for charging stations under certain funding programs is linked.
The data includes information on commissioning as well as master and operating data on the subsidized charging points already installed. They are made available via the online platform OBELIS (short for Online Reporting Charging Infrastructure). OBELIS is divided into three different areas:
- OBELISpublic for publicly accessible charging points
- OBELIScommercial for charging points that are not publicly accessible
- OBELISgerman network for publicly accessible charging points as part of the German network.

Interface (API) for the operators of the German network (regional lots). This is used to automatically transmit data on the development of the charging infrastructure to the National Charging Infrastructure Control Center and the contract manager of the German network.

The data is used for both contract monitoring and scientific analysis.
Data collection and utilization
The data collected on the charging infrastructure is evaluated by the control center in order to incorporate findings on the status quo and identifiable developments into demand planning and the future design of the charging infrastructure expansion.
The raw data from OBELISpublic will be published via the Mobilithek also made available to the public – while safeguarding the legitimate confidentiality interests of operators and grant recipients.
