The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure has launched a new version of the StandortTOOL today as part of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport’s charging infrastructure conference. It is primarily aimed at municipal planning officers and network operators, but also targets an interested public as well as charging infrastructure operators, stakeholders from research and science, the press as well as other media.
The StandortTOOL is based, among other things, on the new study “Charging infrastructure 2025/2030: Scenarios for the market ramp-up” (“Ladeinfrastruktur 2025/2030: Szenarien für den Markthochlauf”) published by the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure at the beginning of June 2024. The methodology of the StandortTOOL consists of breaking down the needs identified in the study into small areas and visualising them according to self-selectable regional blocks.
What is the StandortTOOL capable of?
With its new design, users of the tool can obtain information on the stock and demand for charging infrastructure, subsidised charging infrastructure, the Deutschlandnetz and the vehicle stock and ramp-up in various visualisation formats. In addition to an interactive website for data visualisation, a new “dashboard” format has been introduced to provide a quick overview of aggregated facts and figures at different area levels.
Another new feature: Available areas for the expansion of charging infrastructure from the FlächenTOOL are integrated into the new StandortTOOL. Federal states, local authorities, municipal and other companies as well as private individuals can easily list their properties in the StandortTOOL.
This year, the StandortTOOL will also be successively expanded to include separate application areas for local authorities and network operators. This will provide local authorities with even more detailed information on the existing charging infrastructure and demand, enabling them to use the planning function to develop a forward-looking expansion strategy. The municipalities will also be able to compare their demand situation with other neighbouring municipalities and regional units.
The login area for grid operators is expected to be activated at the end of the year, in particular to provide them with data for electricity grid expansion planning. The StandortTOOL will also provide information on the existing and required charging infrastructure for heavy goods vehicles.
Johannes Pallasch, Head of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure: “For the approximately 11,000 municipalities in Germany, planning charging infrastructure is a highly complex and planning-sensitive task, both for the individual mobility needs of users and the availability of sites on the ground. With StandortTOOL, we break down this complex web of information analytically and visualise requirements in an area-specific, clear and intuitive manner – representing a genuine quantum leap.”
The StandortTOOL is the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure’s planning tool for a Germany-wide charging infrastructure. It supports the federal states, local authorities and network operators in their local expansion planning and provides the general public with information on demand, the current status and expansion activities. Alongside the FlächenTOOL and the LadeLernTOOL, it is one of the key support tools for municipalities that the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure combines in the TOOLBox. We support and assist local authorities as key players in their local expansion of charging infrastructure efforts.
On behalf of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure supports and accompanies the activities to expand the charging infrastructure in Germany under the umbrella of the federally owned NOW GmbH. We support the planning, implementation and promotion of charging infrastructure. We collect relevant data in order to better understand the demand for charging points. We network all key players and pass on our knowledge. We ensure that we always have the users in mind.
