First Deutschlandnetz location opens in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

The first Deutschlandnetz (Germany-wide charging network) location is now going into operation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. TotalEnergies opened its first fast-charging hub in Waren (Müritz) today. E-vehicles can now recharge at a capacity of up to 200 kW at the eight charging points at the Müritzeum in Waren. The next Deutschlandnetz charging hub by TotalEnergies will already begin operation at the end of the month in Rostock.

TotalEnergies received the contract for three regional lots in the tender by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) for the Deutschlandnetz. This means it will be responsible for the installation and operation of 1,100 fast-charging points for electric cars at 134 locations (charging hubs) in eastern, central and western Germany. In 2024, another contract was awarded for further 166 fast-charging points at 33 unmanaged rest areas along the motorway. The charging hubs will be supplied exclusively with electricity generated from renewable sources.

We want electric mobility to be appealing to everyone, regardless of whether they live in an urban or rural region. To make electric mobility successful, it needs a nationwide and above all, reliable charging infrastructure. With around 9,000 ultra-fast charging points in the Deutschlandnetz, we are laying the groundwork for this and eliminating so-called ‘range anxiety’ once and for all. For significant tourist locations such as Waren an der Müritz, this is especially important. Electric car drivers can now charge their car simply, quickly and conveniently here.”

We will now successively expand our charging services, making our contribution to closing the gaps in Germany’s charging infrastructure.”

As part of the Deutschlandnetz, 9,000 additional fast-charging points for e-cars are being built at over 1,000 locations, commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV). They will be installed in rural regions, in cities as well as at unmanaged motorway rest areas. With a budget of around 2.3 billion euros, this makes the Deutschlandnetz the BMDV’s largest funding programme in the area of charging infrastructure. The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, under the NOW GmbH umbrella, plays an important coordinating role in implementing the Deutschlandnetz on behalf of the BMDV and is responsible in particular for demand planning, checking technical requirements as well as data monitoring of locations.

For a positive charging experience, TotalEnergies is equipping its charging hubs with various services such as sanitary and food service facilities across the whole of Europe, providing access to all established payment functions, including an ad hoc option via a payment terminal. In Waren an der Müritz, the tourist centre of the Mecklenburg lake district, the charging facility is supplemented by existing sanitary facilities as well as a snack machine directly at the station. At the Rostock charging hub, which will go into operation at the end of September, charging poles were installed on the premises of a TotalEnergies service station and are connected to the convenience store located there. In addition to the Deutschlandnetz charging hubs, TotalEnergies is implementing other projects in Germany on their own sites as well as at partner locations such as supermarkets or shopping centres. The company currently operates a network of over 6,000 charging points in Germany.
