Today, the “Charging Infrastructure Conference” (“Ladeinfrastruktur-Konferenz”) of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV) is taking place in Berlin for the first time. In his capacity as host, Dr Volker Wissing, Federal Minister for Digital and Transport, welcomes the more than 1,300 registered participants at the Berlin TEC Event Campus and online.

Many more esteemed guests will discuss the main topics of “Supraregional Charging”, “Inner-City Charging” and “Truck Charging” during the panels of the conference. Additionally, an international keynote from the Netherlands will also be presented. The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure (Nationale Leitstelle Ladeinfrastruktur, or simply “Leitstelle”) will also present the latest tools in its “TOOL Kit”. On behalf of the BMDV and under the umbrella of the federally owned NOW GmbH, the Leitstelle plans and supports activities to expand the charging infrastructure in Germany.

Dr Volker Wissing, Federal Minister of Digital and Transport: “We want to ensure that mobility in Germany is climate friendly. For road transport, this means that we will provide the necessary nationwide charging infrastructure expansion for electrification. With the Charging Infrastructure Conference, we are establishing a central and innovative platform for exchange on this topic. We can only achieve our goal of creating the most efficient network possible in the country by working together.”

The conference will highlight the pivotal importance of establishing a nationwide, needs-based and user-friendly charging infrastructure throughout Germany for the success of battery-electric mobility and for achieving the federal government’s transport and climate policy goals. Its focus is on challenges and solutions for a successful overall charging infrastructure system at the municipal, supra-regional and European levels. The conference addresses decision-makers from the EU, federal, state and municipal authorities, companies and associations, in particular from the automotive sector, industry, energy supply, grid operations and the operation and production of charging infrastructure, as well as a broad specialist public.

The panel will include Daniela Kluckert, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Digital and Transport and BMDV Commissioner for Charging Column Infrastructure, Hildegard Müller, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA – Verband der Automobilindustrie), Kerstin Andreae, Chair of the Executive Board of the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW – Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft), Gerhard Hillebrand, Transport President of the German Automobile Club (ADAC), and Johannes Pallasch, Spokesperson for the Management Team of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure. Matthijs Kok, Senior Policy Advisor Zero Emission Mobility at the Municipality of Utrecht, will deliver an international keynote. Kurt-Christoph von Knobelsdorff, NOW GmbH CEO and spokesperson, will close the conference, delivering both an appeal and an outlook.

Johannes Pallasch, Spokesperson for the Management Team of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure: “On behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport, the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure is driving the expansion of charging infrastructure in Germany forward at a rapid pace. We calculate the requirements for this expansion and accompany it on behalf of the BMDV. Only if we quickly create an overall charging infrastructure system that convinces users with charging offers will the switch to electric mobility succeed as quickly as necessary for the sake of climate protection.”

As part of the conference, the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure will present:

  • Four new online data tools that provide comprehensive information on the topics of charging and charging infrastructure in Germany.
  • The new “Einfach laden in der Kommune” (“Easy Charging in the Municipality”) guideline, which supports municipal stakeholders in setting up charging infrastructure locally, particularly in relation to awarding and approval processes
  • A European cooperation project with the Luxembourg Climate Agency: Based on the FlächenTOOL of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure for finding suitable locations, Pro-Charging also brings together those offering and seeking space for the expansion of the charging infrastructure.

The conference will be recorded and made available on the NOW GmbH YouTube channel following completion of the event.
