New guideline for municipalities shows potential for acceleration and special aspects of state law.

The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure has today published a new guideline for the optimisation and acceleration of approval processes.

Entitled “Establishing charging infrastructure in the municipality” (“Ladeinfrastruktur in der Kommune aufbauen”), the publication includes practical guidelines, checklists and best practice examples that illustrate how municipalities can organise approval procedures more efficiently. It thereby defines a standardised and comprehensible nationwide approval process for the expansion of charging infrastructure.

The recommendations for action are aimed at staff in municipalities. In particular, they provide information on how documents can be approved and checked for completeness quickly and efficiently and what legal similarities and differences exist in the federal states.

Municipalities play a key role in infrastructure planning in Germany and are therefore pivotal players not only for the development of charging facilities in public spaces, but ultimately also for the success of electric mobility as a whole. With this guide, the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure is implementing a further measure on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport to provide targeted support to municipalities for the expansion of charging infrastructure.

Johannes Pallasch, Head of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure: “From our discussions with municipalities and municipal umbrella organisations, we have identified a strong demand for exactly this kind of guidance. In this way, we support municipalities in setting up and establishing efficient structures and review processes in a standardised manner – tailored to the applicable legal framework in the respective federal states.”
