Car charging infrastructure in Germany

A nationwide, needs-based and user-friendly charging infrastructure is a key prerequisite for the success of electromobility in Germany.

The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure continuously analyzes how the expansion of the car charging infrastructure is developing, where there is already good coverage and in which areas there is a need for further action. The central basis for this are data-based analyses and digital tools that support monitoring, planning and implementation. The insights gained help to coordinate and effectively manage the expansion in a targeted manner.

The National Centre for Charging Infrastructure continuously records and analyzes the current status of the expansion of the charging infrastructure for cars and regularly publishes the results in interactive dashboards.

The interactive Expansion MONITORING dashboard shows at a glance how well the demand for publicly accessible charging infrastructure in Germany is currently covered, both nationwide and at the level of districts and independent cities. It also provides insights into capacity utilization and market concentration as well as the current status of target achievement for charging infrastructure expansion in accordance with AFIR specifications.

A central instrument for data-based demand planning is the LocationTOOL, which enables the planning of charging infrastructure at municipal level and helps to identify potential bottlenecks.

In addition to data-based demand planning, it is also important to identify suitable properties for the installation of charging infrastructure so that demand can be successfully met.
