The Deutschlandnetz (Germany network) Advances electromobility
Fast charging stations for electromobility
With the Deutschlandnetz, the federal government is creating a nationwide, demand-oriented and user-friendly fast-charging network for electric mobility throughout Germany.
The approximately 1,000 locations with around 9,000 fast-charging points close any remaining „blank spots“ on the charging infrastructure map. The German network ensures that the nearest fast-charging point can be reached anywhere in Germany in just a few minutes.
What is the Deutschlandnetz?
The Deutschlandnetz is a nationwide fast-charging network for electric cars. It is being set up on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) to create a nationwide, user-friendly charging infrastructure in Germany that meets demand.
In the Fast charging law (SchnellLG), the BMV was given the task of ensuring the nationwide and needs-based provision of fast-charging infrastructure.
The Deutschlandnetz complements existing charging services and helps to make electric mobility reliably usable in everyday life and on long journeys.

900 regional locations: the nearest fast-charging station is just a few minutes away across Germany
The approximately 900 regional locations are being built in urban, suburban and rural areas. The aim is to have a fast-charging station just a few minutes away anywhere in Germany.
The locations are spread across 23 regional lots in six regions (North-West, North-East, Central Germany, South-East, South-West, West).
The contract manager for the implementation of the regional locations is the Toll Collect GmbH.
- Allego GmbH
- BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH
- eliso GmbH powered by VINCI Concessions Deutschland GmbH
- E.ON Drive Infrastructure GmbH
- Eviny Elektrifisering AS
- EWE Go HOCHTIEF Ladepartner GmbH & Co. KG
- Fastned Germany GmbH & Co. KG
- Mer Germany GmbH
- Pfalzwerke AG
- TotalEnergies Charging Solutions Deutschland GmbH
200 highway locations: one fast charging station every 15 to 30 km along the highways
Along the highways, around 200 additional fast-charging stations at unmanaged service areas.
The goal: All 15 to 30 kilometers a fast charging station.
These locations complement existing charging facilities at service stations and car parks and enable convenient charging on long journeys.
The 200 locations are divided into six nationwide lots, each with 32 to 34 locations. Each location comprises 4, 6 or 8 fast charging points. In total, around 1,000 new HPC charging points will be created.
Responsible for the implementation of the highway locations in the German network is the Autobahn GmbH of the federal government:
- Bidding consortium Autostrom Plus
- E.ON Drive Infrastructure GmbH
- Fastned Germany GmbH & Co KG
- TotalEnergies Charging Solutions Deutschland GmbH

The Deutschlandnetz is growing
The tenders for the Deutschlandnetz
The tenders for the Deutschlandnetz ensure a basic supply of fast-charging infrastructure in the regions and on the highways.
With the tender, the federal government has deliberately chosen an instrument that expediently expands and supplements the possibilities of the previously state-subsidized private-sector charging infrastructure expansion. The location of the more than 1,000 sites was based on a comprehensive transport planning needs analysis by the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, which takes into account the existing infrastructure.
The locations of the Deutschlandnetz are attractively designed. All services meet defined standards in terms of user-friendliness and customer convenience.
The tenders ensure that:
-
Charging infrastructure is created specifically where it is needed
-
high quality and comfort standards are maintained
-
high availability of the charging points is guaranteed.
Every charging point in the Deutschlandnetz must be technically capable of delivering a maximum charging power of at least 300 kW. In addition, each charging point must be able to provide a nominal charging capacity of at least 200 kW.
Depending on the location:
-
At least 4 charging points (S location)
-
Up to 16 charging points (XL location)
The Federal Ministry of Transport and Autobahn GmbH have awarded 900 locations in rural and urban areas and a further 200 locations at unmanaged service areas to companies for the construction and operation of HPC fast-charging stations in spatially differentiated lots. Following the award of the regional lots in September 2023 and the freeway lots in February 2024, around 9,000 HPC fast-charging points will be created at around 1,000 locations.

Concept for the tendering of 1000 fast-charging locations
Note: The tendering project for the German network does not represent the entirety of all expansion activities in the area of charging infrastructure or fast-charging infrastructure, but rather comprises a limited and specifically defined allocation of services by the federal government at more than 1000 defined locations. The other private-sector activities for the construction and operation of fast-charging infrastructure and their funding by the federal government remain unaffected.
