Implementation of Art. 20 AFIR: DATEX II data profile is ready for immediate use

Since April 14, 2025, operators (CPOs) of publicly accessible charging points have been obliged to provide data on their charging facilities free of charge and on a non-discriminatory basis. This is based on Article 20 of the AFIR Regulation (= Regulation on the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure).

These include on the one hand Static data such as geographical location of the charging points, number of connections and connection types, operating times, compatibility with vehicles and, on the other hand, certain dynamic data such as the current availability or occupancy of the charging points or the operating status.

In order to ensure the smooth transmission of this data, the Member States were obliged to set up a so-called national access point. Germany has fulfilled its task in accordance with Art. 20 para. 4 AFIR and enables public access to the data reported by CPOs or connected interfaces (APIs). The Mobilithek  of the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) serves as a central platform for this. The interfaces to the data already provided by the operators can be accessed there.

With the publication of the DATEX II data profile in version 01-00-00, an important milestone has been reached: the standardized data model is now available in the Mobilithek. This means that the prerequisites for providing this data have been created and CPOs can now make their data available in compliance with the standard - and thus meet the requirements of the AFIR. The use of the DATEX II standard will be mandatory from April 14, 2026.
