Fast charging in Lower Saxony: Starting signal for eliso in the German network
In Georgsmarienhütte, around ten kilometers south of Osnabrück, four Hyperchargers with eight fast-charging points and a charging capacity of up to 400 kW each are now available on Malberger Straße shortly after entering the city, with a special charging station also available for vans.
Patrick Schnieder, Federal Minister of Transport: „The opening in Georgsmarienhütte is a tangible example of how the German network is closing gaps - even away from the major conurbations. This is exactly the kind of location we need to further strengthen the suitability for everyday use and confidence in electromobility. Our goal: fast charging anytime and anywhere.“
The charging hub in Georgsmarienhütte is the first of a total of 110 locations that the charging infrastructure specialist eliso will implement as part of the German network. eliso, as a subsidiary of VINCI Concessions, has been awarded the contract for three regional lots in the tender for the German network by the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) and will therefore be responsible for the installation and operation of 824 fast charging points for electric cars at 110 locations in northern, eastern and central Germany. Over the past few months, the company has intensively examined hundreds of potential locations for the German network. Now eliso has put the first eight ultra-fast 400kW charging points into operation in Georgsmarienhütte.
„By opening our first location in the German network, we are setting an example for the future of electromobility,“ says Robert Straube, eliso's second Managing Director since 2024. „Our goal is to continuously expand the fast-charging network and strengthen the charging infrastructure across the country.“
For eliso, this is already the second fast-charging location in Lower Saxony, but the first as part of the German network. From now on, e-car drivers can charge conveniently and sustainably at the conveniently located fast-charging points near the B51 federal highway thanks to 100% green electricity. Thanks to an integrated display and a credit card terminal, contactless and cashless payment is possible by credit card or by app and charging card.
Johannes Pallasch, Head and Spokesman of the National Charging Infrastructure Control Center at NOW GmbH: „Ultra-fast charging is now possible in Georgsmarienhütte - an example of how well the cooperation between the federal government, operator and control center works. The location proves how targeted and needs-based charging infrastructure is now being planned and implemented.“
With the German network, the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) is working with charging station operators to create 9,000 additional fast-charging points for electric cars at more than 1,000 locations. They are being built in rural regions, in cities and at unmanaged highway service stations.
The National Charging Infrastructure Control Center under the umbrella of NOW GmbH coordinates the implementation of the German network on behalf of the BMV and is responsible in particular for demand planning, checking technical requirements and data monitoring of the locations.
