The Free State of Saxony is making state-owned parking areas available for the creation of publicly accessible charging stations by external investors through the FlächenTOOL platform of the National Charging Infrastructure Coordination Center. In doing so, it is making another important contribution to the expansion of publicly accessible charging infrastructure.

After the state-owned enterprise Saxon Real Estate and Construction Management (SIB) has implemented a charging infrastructure in recent years—currently comprising around 710 charging stations—for the widespread use of electric service vehicles, the inclusion of state-owned properties in the FlächenTOOL represents a further step toward promoting e-mobility in Saxony.

The FlächenTOOL supports the development of publicly accessible charging infrastructure by showing available spaces. States, municipalities, companies and private individuals can search for and offer suitable properties via the digital platform. At www.flaechentool.de more than 50 state-owned parking spaces at public administrative and university locations in the Free State of Saxony are now also available. Private investors can apply to set up publicly accessible charging infrastructure there as part of a land lease.

Oliver Gaber, Commercial Director of the SIB: „E-mobility has a high priority in the Free State of Saxony. To this end, we are providing available spaces and creating appropriate charging facilities. Having already successfully expanded the network of charging points for electric company vehicles in recent years, we are now supporting the expansion of public charging infrastructure by providing suitable parking spaces.“

Johannes Pallasch, Head and Spokesman of the National Charging Infrastructure Control Center at NOW GmbH: „We are delighted that the Free State of Saxony has made more than 50 areas available for the construction of publicly accessible charging infrastructure in the FlächenTOOL. Using the tool facilitates the matching process between private investors and authorities and thus accelerates the expansion on site. Every newly registered space advances the expansion of charging infrastructure in Germany. We are convinced that the advantages of FlächenTOOL are also attractive for other federal states.“

With the necessary basic data, such as location, area size, number of parking spaces and public accessibility, the available spaces are entered on the platform in just a few minutes. Additional details, such as connection to the power grid, availability of infrastructure and photos of the spaces, can be added as an option. Investors can search for specific sites on the interactive map of the FlächenTOOL and contact the owners directly. The search filter function makes it possible to highlight the sites listed by the Free State of Saxony.

These and other activities to expand the charging infrastructure are supported by the Saxony Efficient Mobility Competence Center. It is funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor, Energy and Climate Protection at the Saxon Energy Agency - SAENA GmbH. As the next joint initiative with the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure, an information event for Saxon municipalities and other landowners on the approval and allocation of space for charging infrastructure will take place on 26.08.2025 in Dresden. You are welcome to register at www.saena.de to.
