AreaTOOL: 300th area successfully brokered for the development of charging infrastructure

The spaceTOOL of the National Charging Infrastructure Control Center has reached a milestone: For the 300th time, a space has been successfully brokered to an operator (CPO) for the installation of charging infrastructure.

This is an area in Karlsruhe that found its way to the operator Midorion via FlächenTOOL. An AC charging station with two 22 kW charging points was installed there in the Weiherfeld-Dammerstock district. The charging station was recently officially put into operation in the presence of the mayor, representatives of the city and the operating company.

In the course of redesigning parking areas, the city took the opportunity to lay cables for charging infrastructure as part of the civil engineering work. The location was then published via FlächenTOOL and successfully brokered.

The site is located in the immediate vicinity of several sports facilities, on a side road off the L561 highway in the south of Karlsruhe. The site is easily accessible via the A5, which is connected to the L561 to the south. Residents, sports enthusiasts and visitors to the surrounding recreational and forest areas are among the main users of the new charging facility

Johannes Pallasch, Head and Spokesman of the National Charging Infrastructure Control Center under the umbrella of NOW GmbH: „With 300 spaces now successfully brokered, this confirms that the FlächenTOOL works in practice. It facilitates the networking of space owners and operating companies and thus makes a significant contribution to creating charging facilities specifically where they are needed.“

Number of areas and user profiles increases, functions are developed further

  • More than 2,700 properties are currently available, which have been registered by various players (federal states, municipalities, companies, private individuals).
  • The platform contains over 140 profiles of investors who want to set up charging infrastructure, search for locations via the FlächenTOOL and can contact the landowners here.
  • Since March, public tenders can be linked directly to spaces in FlächenTOOL. Six tenders with over 200 spaces have already been integrated in this way. Investors can use a filter function to search specifically for publicly advertised spaces and have them displayed. A link gives users access to the respective tender portal with further information.
  • OutlookFurther functions will be added shortly. New queries and filters specifically for areas that are suitable for charging trucks are intended to open up additional user groups and thus support the expansion of the charging infrastructure for heavy goods vehicles.

About the FlächenTOOL

The FlächenTOOL is a digital matching platform of the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure under the umbrella of NOW GmbH. Areas available for the installation of charging infrastructure can be entered in the tool and found by investors. These can in turn contact space providers directly via the platform. The aim is to provide all market players with non-discriminatory access to space offers. Launched in November 2020, the concept has now also been adopted across national borders: Under the names Pro-Charging (Luxembourg) and Loading reason (Austria), the two platforms rely on the basic idea of the FlächenTOOL - the matching of space supply and demand.
